Thy Kingdom Come begins in Burton

Published: 25th May 2017

The Bishop of Lichfield, the Right Revd Dr Michael Ipgrave, joined Christians in Burton in greeting Ascension Day as Thy Kingdom Come launched today. Bishop Michael led an early morning service at St Modwens Church in Burton town centre.

The service began at the top of the church tower with an opening prayer and a hymn with the Bishop, other clergy and the energetic making the climb while other people joined in from the market square below.

Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement, which invites Christians around the world to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ.

What started out as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in 2016 to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer.

Various gatherings, including a final Beacon event at Lichfield Cathedral on 4 June, take place over the next fortnight throughout the Diocese and beyond. Find out more here
