Initial Ministerial Development Officer

It is an exciting time in the Diocese of Lichfield as we develop our diocesan strategy and pursue our vision of a diocese that is purposeful about evangelism, engaging creatively with local communities, becoming more diverse and growing younger.

We want to support those who carry the weight of leadership in our diocese, ensuring that all who are exercising frontline ministry are enabled to flourish as human beings and are equipped to face the joys and challenges of ministry, especially in the most demanding times.

We are looking to recruit an Initial Ministerial Development Officer to lead on providing ministry-enhancing learning opportunities for those in the early stages of licenced ministry – in particular our Lay Readers and curates - in line with our Diocesan Strategy and Church of England national requirements.

The right candidate will be someone who:

  • has an understanding of the distinctive nature of lay and ordained ministry and is passionate about seeing ministers (lay and ordained) thrive in their ministry.
  • is realistic and excited by the challenges that face ministry at the local level.
  • has experience of working across a broad range of theological perspectives.
  • is pastorally sensitive and skilled in working with conflict.
  • has experience of creating and delivering programmes of learning for Christian adults.

As an equal opportunities employer, we particularly welcome applications from UKME / GMH candidates.

It is an occupational requirement in accordance with schedule 9 paragraph 1 of the Equality Act for the holder of this role to be a practising Christian.

Salary: £41,765 plus employer pension contribution of 12% and Life Assurance.  25 days annual leave, plus 3 additional diocesan days set annually and statutory bank holidays.
Hours: 35 hours per week with some evening and weekend working required.
Contract: Permanent.

For an informal discussion please contact Jeanette Hartwell (Director of Ministry).
