New Marriage Regulations

Published: 16th March 2015

As from 2nd March 2015 there are changes to the legal preliminaries for the marriage of non-European Economic Area nationals.

It is no longer lawful for such people to be married by banns or by common licence. This means that clergy or others taking details of couples wishing to be married, MUST ask for evidence that both parties are from the UK or EEA in every case. Anyone who cannot provide evidence that they are either British or from an EEA country MUST be married by Superintendent Registrars Certificate, not banns and not a common licence.

The full details of the new procedures, including a list of EEA countries and acceptable evidence of nationality are available here.

Please contact Caroline at the Registry for further information on 01952 292129 or c.dudley@fbcmb.co.uk
