Chaplains in education play a unique role in the institutions in which they serve providing spiritual care and pastoral support for student and staff alike and being a visible Christian presence for all members of the community.
Education Chaplains often help to lead and facilitate the worshipping life of the institution enabling acts of worship and reflection which are meaningful not only for Christian staff and students but for people of all faiths and none. They provide a listening ear coming alongside people in significant moments in their educational and working lives; and they play a significant role in helping their institutions develop a shared understanding of their vision, ethos and values.
In this Diocese, Chaplains often find themselves working in very religiously diverse settings; and so the creative opportunity and challenge is often for them to find a way to be faithful to the proclamation of the good news of Jesus; whilst at the same time, ministering to, and being highly respectful of, those from different faith traditions.
