The Board shares the patronage in 10 benefices that are made up of around 35 parishes. The Board is a statutory body which has the right of presentation to clerical appointments in these benefices.
There are two main functions of the Board. The first is to support the benefice during a period of vacancy by working with the representatives to select a new incumbent. The second, and in some respects more important, is to offer support and be a listening ear throughout the year.
The Board meets twice a year in addition to the meetings with representatives from the benefice when there is a vacancy. Clergy representatives don’t have to be on Diocesan Synod or a member of Bishop’s Council, but they do have to be beneficed or licenced in the diocese.
“This is really important work, it is a privilege to be involved with a Benefice as they chart the next phase in their mission and ministry and select their next incumbent”.
