Acton Trussell with Bednall Parochial Church Council has been awarded a £236,995 grant from The Natonal Lottery Heritage Fund to create a community hub within the existing building to develop connections between people and place by providing social activities targeted at isolated groups within the vicinity of Bednall, Staffordshire. This will complement and enhance the church’s primary role as a place of worship at the heart of the village.
The PCC is now in a position to invite interest from suitably experienced contractors who have worked on listed church buildings within the Lichfield Diocese. Expressions of interest should be sent to our project architects who are seeking to obtain tenders in the next month. Please email tenders@bhbarchitects.co.uk by 21st February 2025 with details of previous experience and contact details.
All Saints Church is a grade 2 listed building at the heart of its community but is underused due to the lack of modern amenities and the fixed nature of the fittings and without this funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the opportunity to provide a social space in this rural village would be lost.
Made possible by National Lottery players, the project will install an accessible toilet, a tea bar and an internal glazed screening to create a community room. Volunteers, local groups and school will be able to take part in the project through events and training opportunities, allowing even more people to enjoy and play a part in the social life of the village.
In the long-term, the project will widen the use of the building and protect its future viability by providing an additonal source of income to maintain the building.
Grete Willacy, All Saints Churchwarden said: “We are thrilled to have received this support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players vital improvements and community outreach will ensure a brighter future for All Saints Church.”
