People around St Alkmunds church in the centre of Shrewsbury are on tenterhooks this week as they anticipate the results of the prestigious English Heritage Angel Awards.
St Alkmunds celebrated its 1100th anniversary last year although it was considered for closure at the turn of the millenium. Under its voluntary priest, Revd Richard Hayes, it has turned around both in its fabric and its life as a venue for concerts and events as well as a small but thriving congregation who keep the building open every day of the year.
