A rapt Shropshire audience heard the Dean of Lichfield Cathedral, the Very Revd Adrian Dorber give this year's Shrewsbury Episcopal Area Lecture today.
Getting back to the heart of what the Church is, the Dean brought the spotlight to shine on the life of Christians living in community, through examining doctrine, acknowledging family traits and differences in the Church (of England and worldwide) and looking at the wisdom of various scholars and saints through the centuries.
Before an offering of soup with lunch provided by the venue, Christ Church Bayston Hill, he examined the concept of Slow Church - neither 'frenetic and over fundctioning' nor 'fast asleep' - noting that 'Nothing can be loved at speed'.
