Section 19: Overtime and Time off in Lieu

We recognise the importance of employee wellbeing and we promote a culture that prevents long working hours. However, you may be required, according to business needs, to work overtime.

Overtime may be necessary for a number of reasons, for example to cover absences, to catch up on deadlines, or to resource one-off projects that cannot be carried out in normal working hours.

Time off in lieu

Provided that you seek permission in advance from your line manager, you will be granted time off in lieu (TOIL) for overtime hours worked.

Ideally any time off in lieu must be taken within one month of accrual, in order to maintain a healthy work/life rhythm. You may carry forward time off in lieu beyond this period, but only where your line manager has given their prior agreement.

Please record your TOIL on the E-days system.
