People streamed to Lichfield Cathedral for the proclamation of King Charles III on Sunday afternoon.
Crowds covered the grass outside the West End of the historic building for the official town crier's proclamation. The Bishop of Lichfield, the Rt Revd Dr Michael Ipgrave, led prayers for the new King.
There was then an emotional rendition of the National Anthem and cheers rang out for King Charles III.
The national flag was raised for the proclamation before being lowered to half-mast again while the period of mourning for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II continues.
