Lichfield Cathedral will host a special time of guided prayer to coincide with the Brexit debate in the Commons next Tuesday and is urging other churches across the region to join them.
The Dean of Lichfield, the Very Revd Adrian Dorber, said: Next Tuesday sees the culmination of the debate in the House of Commons on the Governments Brexit proposals. The outcome of that debate and vote will determine our nations future.
It seems right therefore to invite people to come and pray in the cathedral, to remember the heavy responsibility on our parliamentarians, and to ask God for wisdom and integrity in our national life, he added.
The guided prayer will start at 1.10pm until 1.30pm at the foot of the new icon cross in the nave (pictured above) and everyone is welcome to join in.
The Dean also urged people to remember their cathedrals were always open to come in for prayer, or just to take a moment of stillness and quiet reflection in these challenging times.
Meanwhile the Dean of Southwark, the Very Revd Andrew Nunn, has written a special prayer for people to use if they wish.
God of reconciling hope,
as you guided your people in the past
guide us through the turmoil of the present time
and bring us to that place of flourishing
where our unity can be restored,
the common good served
and all shall be made well.
In the name of Jesus we pray.
Amen.
