#NewReaders2024 - Malcolm Payne

I am a registered mental health nurse by profession, currently employed as a Forensic CPN Manager for Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. I am from Worcestershire originally and live with my civil partner, Danny, who is a vicar and our three year old Scottish Terrier, Wilfy.

My faith journey came later in life and I was received into the RC Church in 2010. Since then, I have taken an active role in supporting the life of the church which included singing in the choir, reading at Mass, being licensed as a Eucharistic Minister and a hospital chaplaincy volunteer. In recent years, I felt a calling to serve God more formally and, following a period of discernment, I was delighted to have been put forward for training as a Licensed Lay Minister. During the last two years, I have enthusiastically dedicated my time to academic studies at Queen’s Theological College as well as preaching and leading of a variety of services at the Collegiate Church of St Mary, Stafford. I am grateful for the prayers, support and guidance from the ministers and people of the parish, my formation mentor and spiritual director, as well as my family and friends in sustaining me on my journey.

When I am licensed I am looking forward to the pastoral elements of my role, meeting the needs of our parish and exploring opportunities in funeral and chaplaincy ministry, while remaining attentive to God's call.
